Should I Roll Back My RTX 4080 Driver If A Strategy Game Won't Stay Open??

  1. Last night i updated teh driver for my RTX 4080, and now a strategy game crashes right after loading in with this:

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

before teh update it ran perfectly for months. nothing else changed, as far as I know... should I roll back, do a clean install, or wait for the next driver?

Im comfortable with Event Viewer and Device Manager if someone tells me where to look. Id just like to avoid a full Windows reinstall. thx in advance!!

  2. clear the shader cache after a driver change. on AMD, use Reset Shader Cache in Adrenalin. on NVIDIA, delete teh contents of %LOCALAPPDATA%\NVIDIA\DXCache while no games are running.

  4. been there man check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application for an Application Error at the crash time 🔥 the faulting module name tells you whether its teh game, the graphics driver or smth else.

  6. ahh classic turn off overlays one by one as a test: teh game launcher overlay, the GPU vendor overlay, and any recording or chat overlays. A new driver can break an older overlay hook.

  7. hmmmm not sure about that i'd wait a few days before rolling back. Sometimes a hotfix driver comes out quickly, and rolling back can bring old problems back.

  8. wait what wait, elena already fixed it? lol i was just about to type out a whole essay about how dxgi_error_device_removed is usually a hardware hang or a power supply issue... but yeah, clearing the shader cache is a classic move. honestly, id still be careful about rolling back drivers just cuz of teh gpu prices weve been seeing lately... we cant afford to waste time on troubleshooting if a simple cache clear does the trick. but for anyone else still seeing that error, id say check your psu cables too, cuz sometimes those 40-series cards just have a literal heart attack if the power isnt stable. glad u got it sorted tho!! just my 2 cents
