turn off overlays one by one as a test: the game launcher overlay, teh GPU vendor overlay, and any recording or chat overlays. A new driver can break an older overlay hook.

  1. ok weird one I'm sooo frustrated 😭 since teh latest driver, a racing sim keeps crashing to desktop right after loading in on my RTX 4070:

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

i verified game files and restarted. Other games seem fine, which makes it even weirder. Whats the cleanest way to go back to the previous driver??

I dont mind rolling back, but Id like to understand what changed. is there something in the new driver thats known to cause this?

Any routine you follow after driver updates would be great to hear. i clearly need a better process. pls help 🙏

  2. for a truly clean install, use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode, then install the driver you want with the internet disconnected so Windows Update doesn't replace it.

  4. @tjensen DDU in Safe Mode plus a fresh install fixed it... crashes right after loading in are gone on my RTX 4070.
