  1. This happened after moving it to another device on my ROG Ally:

    microSD card can't be read

    microSD card can't be read
The card may need to be formatted for this system,
or it may be damaged. Formatting erases all data.
Card: 512 GB - status: not mounted

The card is a 512 GB card. I tried rebooting and reseating it. Nothing. I cant even tell if the card is dead or just has a broken file system. What should I try first?

I'm comfortable following steps in a terminal if someone explains them. I'm just not suree where to start, and I don't want to make things worse.

i'd also love to know how to avoid this in the future. Is it the card, teh device, or just bad luck? im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  3. Reboot with the card inserted. If it still doesnt mount, try teh card in another deivce. If no device sees it, teh card might be failing. good luck man!

  4. lol same thing happened to me if teh card uses ext4, you can check it with sudo fsck.ext4 /dev/mmcblk0p1 from a terminal (youll need to set a password with passwd first) :/ Make suree the card isnt mounted while checking.

windows update said 'this will only take a moment' 3 hours ago

  5. I'd avoid running repair tools before making a backup. If the card is failing, every extra write can make recovery haredr. idk maybe im wrong lol
