RANDOM CRASHES AFTER ENABLING EXPO: RAM, BOARD, OR SOMETHING ELSE??

  1. long time lurker first post lol new build on a B650 board with 2x32 GB DDR5 🙏 With the memory profile (EXPO) enabled, teh system is mostly fine, but every few days i get a random reboot or an app crash :/ With the profile off, running at default JEDEC speed, its rock solid.

I already updated the BIOS. is this just a bad kit, or is it normal for high-speed DDR5 to need some tuning? id like to keep teh speed if possible, but stability matters more since I also use this machine for work. any ideas??

  2. check the SoC/memory controller voltage the board applies with teh profile. some boards set it automatically, sometimes higher than necessary, sometimes not enough for a given chip. i wouldnt start poking voltages blindly, but its worth reading what your boards BIOS is applying and comparing with what the platform docuemntation considers safe. lmk how it goes

  3. Are there any Windows event log entries around the crashes, like WHEA errors? That can point to the memory controller.

If the behaviour persists, more detail about the environment would help. lmk how it goes

  4. been there man kit is 2x32 GB. ran a memory test overnight with teh profile on and got errors in teh second pass :) with the profile off, four passes, zero errors.

  5. been there man short version: @alba.tanaka84 i'm wary of teh advice to just lower the speed one notch and call it done. If teh kit throws errors at its rated profile on a board that lists it as supported, that's arguably an RMA case. You could be masking a marginal module. Try each stick alone at the profile before settling on a workaround. hope that helps :)

  6. ok so since this is also a work machine: theres nothing wrong with running JEDEC speed 😭 The performance gain from memory speed is real in some games and workloads, but for most office and dev work you wont notice. Stability you will notice. Silent data corruption is much worse than a few percent of throughput.

  7. Test properly before deciding anything. Run a dedicated memory tester for several full passes, then smth that srtesses CPU and RAM toegther. Random crashes every few days usually show up as errors after an hour or two of testing 🤦 Without a test you cant tell whether a change actually fixed it or just made it rarer. fingers crossed 🤞

  8. oh ive been there lol this is common. the prfoile is a factory-validated setting for the RAM, but whether ur particular CPUs memory controller and board handle it is a separate question. high-capacity kits (2x32) are harder to drive than 2x16.

the first thing Id try: keep the profile but drop the speed one or two steps, leaving the timings as they are. often thats enough, and the real-world difference is small.

    good luck! fingers crossed 🤞
