Accepted solution by Vik Nakamura — oof practical tip: drop teh dot inside the target room, dont carry it in ur hand. The game needs it present in the room with other items,…
  1. long time lurker first post lol okay, retro folks, I finally did it. in Adventure on teh Atari 2600 (1980), teh programmer hid his own credit cuz Atari did not put developer names on games back then.

How it works: play game 2 or 3 xD Inside the Black Castles catacomb maze theres a single gray dot that blends into the wall. Pick it up (u cant see it in ur hand, it just attaches). Carry it to a corridor near teh start where one side wall is solid. With the dot plus other objects in that room, the wall flickers and you can walk through it.

the hidden room shows the words Created by Warren Robinett in flashing colors... i actually yelled. any ideas??

  3. yeah so it was a hallway a couple of screens from teh start, teh one where teh side is solid. once I dropped teh dot and some items there, the side started flickering and I walked straight through.

  4. hmmm WAIT WHAT, the reason the term 'easter egg' got attached to games is literally this cartridge? That is teh best kind of trivia.

  5. the reason the wall opens is a quirk of the 2600s limited object handling. when too many objects share a screen teh game flickers them, and the dot trick abuses that so the barrier stops blocking u. hope that helps :)

  7. ahh classic related history: this is why Atari later had a culture of hidden initials in games. plenty of 2600 titles followed with their own secret credits once developers realized it was possible.

nothing is more permanent than a temporary workaround

  8. the bat can steal the dot or swap ur items around, which is the most frustrating part. if the bat shows up, go grab the dot again before you panic. worked for me anyway 🤷

oof practical tip: drop teh dot inside the target room, dont carry it in ur hand. The game needs it present in the room with other items, sooo dropping everything there works best. good luck man!

  11. nah tbh honestly its well documented in every retro gaming book, sooo old news for collectors. still, doing it yourself on hardware hits different than reading about it. idk maybe im wrong lol

  12. @proxy_tinker thanks for teh tip about dropping the dot instead of carrying it. that was exactly why it failed for me the first two times. cant believe it was that simple lol
