  1. guys pls help we have a multifunction pirnter on our office network that randomly goes "offline" for half the PCs. restarting it fixes things for a few days.

i suspect something network-related, but i'm not suree what. Any tips for making it reliable? The router is a standard unit our ISP provided and nobody has touched its settings in years. About ten people print to it.

  2. @mutex_forge is the printer on Wi-Fi or Ethernet? and does the router hand out its IP via DHCP? hope that helps :)

  3. ahh classic printer is on Wi-Fi. Router uses DHCP and i don't think there's a reservation. Its IP was different today from what's written on the sticker on teh side. fingers crossed 🤞

If its on Wi-Fi, consider moving it to a wired connection. Printers on Wi-Fi often have meidocre radios and power saving that makes them intermittently unreachable :) A cable to a switch is the most boring and reliable fix. If theres no network jack neabry, a small switch or a powerline adapter can bridge the gap.

  5. id argue for setting a static IP on the printer itself only as a last resort. A DHCP reservation keeps everything managed in one place and avoids conflicts if someone later changes the DHCP range. static IPs configured on devices tend to be forgotten and cause conflicts years later.

  6. @rquintero_5 reservation plus disabling deep sleep did it. Wrote teh IP on a label on the printer for the next person. worked for me anyway 🤷
