Accepted solution by Yusuf Park — oh ive been there lol check teh BIOS: some boards have a front panel type setting ( HD Audio vs AC97 ). If it got reset after a BIOS…
  1. not gonna lie this is driving me nuts heres my weird problem... front jack, no sound... rear jack, perfect sound.

    USB Audio Device Properties

    Device status:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Started right after MV42N Audio Driver updated from Shuttle. i realy dont want to crawl under the desk every time i switch to a headset. Any idea where jack detection lives these days and how to bring it back without reinstalling Windows?? Ive also chceked the cable on the a headset and its fine. It really seems like the PC simply stopped noticing teh front panel exists. what am i doing wrong??

  2. ok but does a separate Headphones device appear in mmsys.cpl at all?

  3. The console app is gone. It used to be in the Start menu and now it's not.

15 tabs open and chrome ate all 32GB of ram again

  4. yeahhh open the vendors audio console app (if installed) and look for device advanced settings or connector settings. Theres often an option like Disable front panel jack detection or Make front and rear output devices play two different audio streams. Updates can reset these. worked for me anyway 🤷

  5. ok so in mmsys.cpl, check whether the front jack shows up as a separate device (often named Headphones), possibly disabled or disconnected. Right-click > Show Disabled Devices and enable it. hope that helps :)

  6. lol same thing happened to me if the console app went missing with the update, the jack logic may be partially gone too... install the full audio package from teh motherboard or PC makers support page, which usually includes the console app through the Microsoft Store link. hope that helps :)

  7. Roll back the audio driver in Device Manager > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver as a quick test. If the front jack works again, it's the driver.

  8. oh ive been there lol if none of that helps, open the case and check that the HD_AUDIO front panel connector is fully seated on teh motherboard header. coincidences happen, and a half-loose connector can fail jack detection. good luck man!

  10. ehh disabling jack detection is a workaround, not a fix... it works, but youll have to switch outputs manually.

  11. @yusufp136 Reinstalled the full audio package, the console app came back, and the jack detection setting was reset. Front jack works with a headset again.
