yeahhh if nothing works, install the full audio package from teh PC or motherboard makers support page, then reboot. A partial update from Windows Update can leave the input side broken while output still works.

  1. long time lurker first post lol two hours of troubleshooting and my XLR mic through an interface is still invisible to Windows.

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    What Ive tried: unplugging, other ports, the sound troubleshooter, reinstalling teh streaming software. The HD Audio Codec Driver update is the only change on this machine. Id really like to know what to check, in order, because Im starting to change random settings and that never ends well. Also, output works perfectly, so its only the input side thats broken. Any help is appreciated. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

    at this point my GPU cost more than my car lol

  5. Check privacy first, it's the most common cause: Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Make sure Microphone access is on, Let apps access your microphone is on, and Let desktop apps access your microphone is on. Updates sometimes reset these.

  6. Some vendor audio suites have their own jack detection or device toggle that overrides Windows. Open the vendor's cosnole app (if installed) and check whether the mic input is disabled or reassigned there.

  7. open mmsys.cpl > Recording tab, right-click and enable Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices, if the USB microphone shows as disabled, right-click > Enable and set it as default.

  10. for USB mics, try a port directly on the PC, not a hub, and check Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers for errors. A USB controller driver issue can hide teh mic.

  11. In Device Manager, look under Audio inputs and outputs and Sound, video and game controllers. If the device has a warning, roll back via Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver, or uninstall it and use Action > Scan for hardware changes. good luck man!

  15. nah tbh some a video export versions keep their own device selection and need a restart after a device appears. Restart the app before deciding a fix didnt work. just my 2 cents
