Accepted solution by Lea T. — oof check that the PCIe power connectors are fully seated and not melted or discoolred. Power issues can produce artifacts under load. lmk…
  1. not gonna lie this is driving me nuts i installed the Gigabyte Intel 915G VGA Driver 14.8.0.3929 update last night and this morning my living-room PC looked like this in the browser:

    gpu artifacts

little colored blocks, flickering lines, sometimes a whole strip of the screen goes green for a moment. it doesnt crash, it just looks horrible. my stomach dropped cuz artifacts usually mean dying hardware, right? but its suspicious that it started exactly after the update. how do i tell which one it is without spending money?

  2. Any GPU overclock or memory overclock active?

  3. ok so your BIOS observation is a good clue. If artifacts appear only after Windows loads teh driver, but not in BIOS or in Safe Mode (which uses the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter), that leans towards driver/software. If they show up in BIOS too, think hardware.

  4. ahh classic do a proper clean install of the previous driver: download it from the Gigabyte support page, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, then install. A plain rollback in Device Manager sometimes leaves the problematic profiles in place. fingers crossed 🤞

  5. try turning off the default config first, fixed it for me lmk how it goes

  6. test with a second display output or a different port. if artifacts move with the screen content in screenshots, it's rendering (GPU). if they don't appear in a screenshot but do on the monitor, the cable, port or monitor itself is involved.

  7. yeahhh reset any overclock or undervolt, especially memory clock. Artifacts that look like small colored blocks are often VRAM instability, and a driver update can change memory behavior enough to tip a marginal OC over.

  8. yeahhh honestly just reset the DNS and save yourself the pain. i swear windows is cursed hope that helps :)

  12. ehh safe Mode being clean doesn't fully clear teh hardware. Safe Mode barely loads the GPU, so a weak card can look fine there. just my 2 cents

  13. @tensorwrangler dude removed the memory overclock and the artifacts in teh browser disappeared even on Intel 915G VGA Driver 14.8.0.3929. the update just expoesd an OC that was never stable.
