  1. After a fresh install on my mini PC, Device Manager shows a SM Bus Controller with a yellow mark. Everything seems to work, but i hate leaving unknown devices around. Does ASUS P5KPL-AM Bios include the driver for this? How do i find out what this device actually is before installing random packages? Id rather not use driver updater tools if i can avoid it. thx in advance!!

have u tried turning it off and on again (im only half joking)

  5. hmmm open Device Manager > device > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids. The VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx part identifies teh vendor and device. searching that ID (or checking the INF files in a driver package) tells you which package covers it. lmk how it goes

printer saw i was in a hurry and chose violence

  6. if teh device works and nothing is broken, leaving it unknown is usually harmless, but installing the right driver can improve power management or sensors. fingers crossed 🤞

  8. common mappings: SM Bus Controller usually needs the chipset package; PCI Simple Communications Controller is often the Management Engine interface; Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller often relates to thermal or platform drivers.
