  1. this is so frustrating. I'm trying to update teh graphics driver on my gaming laptop, and an older package fails immediately:

    Windows Update

"Not compatible with this version of Windows." Windows Update says Im fully up to date... the Catalyst Radeon R9 285 Graphics Driver page supports Windows, is the installer checking something besides the OS version? I feel like Im missing something obvious 🤦 I even tried downloading it on another computer and copying it over, just in case the file was corrupted, same error, same instant failure lmao I am honestly running out of ideas. any ideas??

  2. Check your Windows build with winver. Newer driver packages can require a minimum feature update. If you're on an old build, install the pending feature update first and try again.

  4. ahh classic run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth if the installer fails on every version. A damaged component store can break driver installers in odd ways. worked for me anyway 🤷

  5. ahh classic some laptops use OEM-customized drivers (common on hybrid graphics). In that case get teh driver from teh laptop maker's support page, or use the generic AMD package only if it explicitly lists mobile GPUs.

  7. hmmmm not sure about that OEM drivers can lag far behind. If the laptop makres version is ancient, the vendors generic mobile package is usually fine once you match teh right one.

  9. @cipher_deck153 WOWWW installed the pending Windows feature update, then Catalyst Radeon R9 285 Graphics Driver 14.30.1005 went on without a single complaint.. 👍 the error was technically true, just unhelpful. u guys are the best!!!
