after switching, Device Manager should show Standard SATA AHCI Controller or Standard NVM Express Controller... the RST/RAID driver can stay installed; it just wont be used. u can remove it later via Apps or pnputil if you want.

  1. every guide for adding a second SSD says AHCI, my work PC came configured with RAID mode and teh DR16-B Firmware storage dirver.

Thats what happens if I just flip the switch. I dont want to reinstall Windows if I can avoid it. Whats the correct, safe procedure to switch, and do I need to uninstall teh RAID driver first? I have a backup of my documetns, but Id really prefer to keep my installed programs and settings intact if possible.

  2. Is it a single drive, or do you have an actual RAID array?

  3. windows only loads teh stroage driver needed for the current mode at boot ;) switch modes and it cant find its boot disk. the common safe procedure: in an admin terminal run bcdedit /set safeboot minimal, reboot into BIOS, switch to AHCI, boot (Safe Mode loads teh AHCI driver), then run bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot and reboot normally. worked for me anyway 🤷

  5. Back up first. The safe-mode method works in most cases, but if you use real RAID volumes (multiple drives), switching to AHCI will break the array. only do this with single-drive setups.

  7. @nimbuslab BIOS reset was teh culprit. set it back to RAID and left it there since i dont need AHCI after all. seriously made my day 😭🙏
