  1. im literally losing my mind here my headphones worked perfectly yesterday, today, total silence. the volume slider moves, the little meter in Sound settings doesnt bounce at all, and nothing plays.. 👍 the only change i can find is a HD ALC 880 Audio CODECs update from Realtek.

i tried plugging in a different pair of headphones in case the headphones died, but same result. YouTube plays silently, games are silent, notifications are silent. It feels like teh PC forgot it has a sound card. Is there a reliable way to get the old driver back, or to reinstall this one properly? im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  2. Is it an onboard audio chip, or a USB/external device?

  3. oof look in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System around teh upadte time for errors from Kernel-PnP or teh audio driver service. A failed install or a device that couldnt start shows up there with a reason.

  4. oof many vendor audio packages split into a base drievr plus extension/component drivers. if only part of it updated, things break 😤 download teh comlpete package from your PC or motherboard makers support page and install it over the top. hope that helps :)

  5. Check that the audio services are running: open services.msc and make sure Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder are Running and set to Automatic. restart both if needed.
