Before all that, create a restore point: Checkpoint-Computer -Description "before DDU" in an admin PowerShell, or via System Protection. cheap insuracne.

  1. hmmmm ok okay, help me do this proeprly... my gaming desktop has teh control panel wont open after a AMD update and Ive decided to go back to the preivous driver.

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    Ive downloaded DDU and the older package. What exactly do i do, in what order, and how do i stop Windows from reinstalling the new one behind my back? 😂 i have never used DDU before, so pls assume i know nothing. i do have a USB stick and a second devcie to read instructions on while i work.

  3. Roll Back is greyed out when Windows doesn't have the previous driver package cached ;) That's normal, not a sign anything is broken. You can see what's stored with pnputil /enum-drivers and remove a specific package with pnputil /delete-driver oemXX.inf /uninstall.

  4. Sequence that works: 1) download teh older package from teh AMD support page and DDU, 2) disconnect teh network, 3) boot into Safe Mode (Settings > Recovery > Advanced startup > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings), 4) run DDU, choose Clean and restart, 5) intsall the older package, 6) reconnect. hope that helps :)

  6. For a one-version rollback, the installer's own clean install checkbox (when available) is often enough 😤 DDU is great, but not always required.

  7. @lateprobe-34j DDU was much less scary than i expected. clean install of the older AMD drievr and everything works. saving this thread for next time.
