  1. Every few hours my home-built PC loses a webcam, and teh USB port stops responding.

i'm on the P7P55D-E LX Bios package from ASUS... i've seen ppl mention USB selective suspend, power management, and chipset drivers... i'd love to understand which one is most likely, because changing all of them at once won't tell me anything. i'm happy to test one thing at a time and report back with results.

  2. If everything fails and ports die even in a fresh Windows install or in a Linux live USB, the problem is hardware (motherboard or power), not drivers.

  3. lol same thing happened to me disable USB power saving as a test: Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > Disabled. Then in Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers, for each USB Root Hub, untick Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. worked for me anyway 🤷

  4. oof install teh chipset package that the PC or motherboard maker lists for ur exact model, rather than a generic one from ASUS, and check for a BIOS update. USB stability often depends on both.

  5. hmmmm not sure about that if the symptom moves between ports, Id suspect the controller or power supply more than teh chipset INF package.
