question for people who care about audio for late-night TV: do u use virtual surround on a USB headset?? some friends swear it helps them hear direction... othres say it muddeis everything and stereo is better... id love to hear real experiences, not marketing, what do u use, and did it make a noticeable difference after a few weeks?? im especially cuirous whteher anyone switched back after trynig it for a while, and why. im about to throw this thing out the window lol
do enhancements in the audio driver add latency for late-night tv?
Accepted solution
Jump to the replyoof loudness equalization and similar effects compress teh dynamic range. Fine for late-night TV, not great for music or for hearing quiet footsteps. fingers crossed 馃
sorry forgot to say stereo a USB headset, nothing fancy. sorry for the wall of text lol
if you suspect an effect causes crackle or latency, turn it off in
mmsys.cpl> device > Enhancements/Advanced and compare. Processing should be inaudible in terms of delay, but buggy implementations exist.RAM prices doing their own thing again smh
+1 same here. lol this thread is gold
ok so for games that have their own good 3D audio engine, adding another surround layer on top can make positioning worse. In that case, use stereo output and let the game handle it. worked for me anyway 馃し

@gbrandt WOWWW turned off the vendor surround and enabled the games own 3D audio. Footsteps are much clearer now. thank u thank u thank u
