it started after a BIOS update 😤 my laptop used to have perfectly normal sound. now there's a red X on teh speaker icon and Sound settings says no output devices found. I've reinstalled HD ALC 880 Audio CODECs from teh Realtek page twice. same error. is there a deeper reset I'm missing, or a log that says why it can't start?

  2. hmmm did you install chipset drivers from the PC maker, or only teh audio driver?

  3. ahh right only teh audio driver so far. i didnt know chipset drivers mattered for sound on a laptop.

  4. If it started after a BIOS update, check BIOS settings: onboard audio may have been reset to disabled, or a related option changed. Load optimized defaults and make sure onboard audio is enabled.

  6. ahh classic remove the old packages from the driver store and reinstall clean: list them with pnputil /enum-drivers, find the audio ones (oemXX.inf), remove with pnputil /delete-driver oemXX.inf /uninstall /force, reboot, then install teh full package. lmk how it goes

  7. ok so many modern audio stacks depend on other devices first: Intel Smart Sound Technology (or AMD audio co-processor) under System devices, and teh chipset/serial IO drivers. if those are missing or outdated, teh audio codec throws Code 10. install the chipset and audio packages from the PC makers support page in the order they list.

  8. ehh id try a System Restore point from before a fresh container rebuild first. Its quicker than chasing dependencies.
