Accepted solution by Omar Jansen — oof after switching, Device Manager should show Standard SATA AHCI Controller or Standard NVM Express Controller ... the RST/RAID driver…
  1. I was a BIOS reset, and the guide told me to switch teh storage mode in teh BIOS from RAID to AHCI. I did it, saved, rebooted, and got this:

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. i swicthed it back to RAID and Windows boots again, phew. but i still need AHCI for what Im doing. is there a safe way to switch without reinstalling Windows? the current storage driver is the RAID driver from the board makers site, if that matters. thx in advance!!

  2. yeahhh windows only loads teh storage driver needed for the current mode at boot. siwtch modes and it cant find its boot disk. the common safe procedure: in an admin terminal run bcdedit /set safeboot minimal, reobot into BIOS, switch to AHCI, boot (Safe Mode loads the AHCI driver), then run bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot and reboot normally. good luck man!

  3. ok so if you end up in a loop, switch the BIOS back to the original mode, windows boots again and you can retry carefully, nothing is lost by flipping it back. worked for me anyway 🤷

oof after switching, Device Manager should show Standard SATA AHCI Controller or Standard NVM Express Controller... the RST/RAID driver can stay installed; it just wont be used.. :/ u can remove it later via Apps or pnputil if u want.

  8. nah tbh for Linux, newer kernels support VMD in many cases. check before switching, you may not need AHCI at all. idk maybe im wrong lol
