My Home-Built PC Crawls And Task Manager Says The External SSD Is Pegged At 100%

  1. im literally losing my mind here after the Samsung SM-352F Firmware T906 update, my home-built PC became painfully slow. Opening the Start menu takes ages, and apps freeze for seconds at a time. Task Manager shows this:

    Disk 0 (C:) Active time 100%

    Disk 0 (C:) Active time 100%
    Not responding

The external SSD sits at 100% active time, with barely any read or write speed. Response times are huge. Before the update everything was snappy. i'm wondering whether the storage driver is the issue or whether my drive is dying at the worst possible time.

  2. hmmm back up important data first, just in case. Then check drive health: wmic diskdrive get status gives a quick result, and the drive makers own tool or CrystalDiskInfo shows SMART details like reallocated sectros and media errors.

  4. yeahhh look in Event Viewer > System for disk, stornvme, storahci or iaStorAC warnings like reset to device or I/O retried, those point at driver or hardware timeouts.

  6. ahh classic if its an external SSD, try a different USB port and cable. UASP issues can cause 100% active time with low throughput.

  7. open Resource Monitor > Disk tab and sort by total bytes and response time. that shows which process is hitting the disk. if nothing is, but active time stays at 100%, suspect teh driver. hope that helps :)
