Is it the cable, the switch, or the Gigabyte LAN driver?

Accepted solution by Liv Mendes — yeahhh if the laptop gets ggiabit on the same cable and port, roll back the LAN driver in Device Manager Properties Driver Roll Back…
  1. guys pls help i pay for gigabit fiber and my home server is wired, but speed tests top out at roughly 95 Mbps 👍 Windows says the link speed is 100/100 Mbps. Thats suspicious, cuz before the Gigabyte P2542G WLAN Driver 15.1.1.1 update it showed 1000 and i was getting full speed. Heres what the adapter status looks like:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    i haven't touched the cable or the router. Can a drievr update realy change teh negotiated speed, or is it a coincidence and something physical is going on? seriously need help here 😭

  2. Also on the Advanced tab, look for Energy Efficient Ethernet, Green Ethernet or Advanced EEE and disable them as a test :D Power saving features can cause negotiation trouble with some switches.

  3. ahh classic check teh adapter settings: Device Manager > Network adapters > Ethernet > Properties > Advanced, find Speed & Duplex and make suree its Auto Negotiation. updates sometimes reset or chnage this... dont force 1000 full unless auto fails.
