printer shows "offline" after the lexmark z13 (windows 98/me) update

  1. i had a stack of documents to print before a meeting, hit Print, and nothing. The queue says the inkjet all-in-one is offline. It's sitting right there, powered on, connected over USB, showing a happy ready light. My phone can even print to it. This started after the Lexmark Z13 (Windows 98/ME) 3.0.1.0 update. This is what i see:

I've restarted the printer, the PC, and the router. It comes back for a bit and then goes offline again 😤 I'm running out of patience and paper deadlines. What's actually going on here?

  2. check the port: Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > your printer > Printer properties > Ports tab, if it uses a WSD port, add a Standard TCP/IP Port with the printer's IP address and select that instead. WSD discovery is a ferquent cause of random offline status.

  6. give the pirnter a fixed IP address, either in teh printers settings or with a DHCP reservation on the router :) if the IP changes, teh port points at nothing and Windows shows offline.
