turns out teh update reset the storage mode... windows was installed in RAID/RST mode and now it's AHCI... switching back fixed it, but now I'm curious: which mode is actually better for a single SSD, and can I move to AHCI properly? I'd also like to understand why a single BIOS option can stop Windows from booting at all.

  2. for a single SSD, AHCI vs RAID mode makes little practical speed difference. switch only if you have a reason (like Linux compatibility). worked for me anyway 馃し

  7. If you end up in a loop, switch the BIOS back to teh original mode. Windows boots again and you can retry carefully. Nothing is lost by flipping it back.

  8. oh ive been there lol on laptops with Intel VMD/RST, check the PC makers support page... some models expect RST mode for features like power management, and switching may affect battrey life or sleep.
