Mobility Catalyst Display Drivers recovered from a timeout AGAIN. How do I find the real cause?

  1. help!! okay, this is driving me nuts. Black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like nothing happened 😂 Then this pops up:

its always while alt-tabbing out of a fullscreen game, my gaming desktop is not overclocked and temps look normal in the vendor overlay... the only change i can point to is the Mobility Catalyst Display Drivers update from AMD... ive already restarted a dozen times, obviously, is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am i stuck guessing?

  2. been there man some ppl raise TdrDelay in teh registry to hide this, i wouldnt start there: it just gives the GPU longer to hang and doesnt fix anything. Use it as a diagnostic at most, and remove it afterwards. fingers crossed 🤞

  7. hmmm since it started right after the update, roll back first. Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. If the button is greyed out, download the previous package from teh AMD support page and install that instaed. worked for me anyway 🤷

  8. been there man if rollback deosnt help, do a clean install: download the driver you want first, disconenct from teh internet so Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install teh downloaded package. leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than ppl think. worked for me anyway 🤷
