If It Isn't Broken, Should I Still Update Catalyst Radeon Display Driver 6.2 (Windows 98/ME)?

  1. hmmmm ok im on an old studio branch and everything works for 3D rendering. Now AMD has Catalyst Radeon Display Driver 6.2 (Windows 98/ME) out and teh app keeps nagging me. Part of me wants the fixes, part of me remembers teh last time an update gave me black screens for a week. Has anyone been running it for a while?? Any issues worth knowing before i click install? i would love a short, honest answer from people who have actually used it for a few weeks. thx in advance!!

  2. oh ive been there lol my approach: make a restore point, download the previous driver package so it's ready, then try teh new one... if anything misbehaves, DDU and reinstall the old one. that makes updating a low-risk experiment. lmk how it goes

  5. hmmm for programming, stability matters more than the newest game optimizations. If there's a separate stable/studio/recommended branch, that's usually the better fit.

  7. oof read teh release notes on teh AMD support page before anything else. they list fixed issues and known issues. if a known issue matches your setup, wait; if the fixes dont touch you, theres no rush. hope that helps :)

  9. lol same thing happened to me keep a short log of what driver youre on and when u changed it (pnputil /enum-drivers shows installed packages and dates). When somehting breaks later, you'll know if the timing matches.

  11. Driver updates do sometimes include security fixes, so I wouldnt stay on a very old version forever. But waiting a week or two after release to see if a hotfix appears is perfectly reasonable. fingers crossed 馃
