    longer version: my prebuilt desktop came with a manufacturer-customized graphics driver. I wanted the newer one from AMD directly. every installer I try says its incompatible with my Windows :D is the laptop maker locking this down, or is my Windows install broken? I would really prefer not to reinstall Windows just to update one driver. if there is a way to check what teh installer is actually comparing, I would love to know it. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

    yeahhh that error is often misleading xD installers check the GPU's hardware ID against their INF file, not just the OS... open Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids and compare... if you grabbed the desktop package for a lpatop GPU (or vice versa), you'll get this exact message.
