Did the new NVIDIA driver break my gaming laptop, or is my card dying?

  1. ok so okay, this is driving me nuts. black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like nothing happened. then this pops up:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    Its always while alt-tabibng out of a fullscreen game. My gaming laptop is not overclocked and temps look nromal in the vendor overlay. The only change i can point to is teh GeForce Graphics Driver update from NVIDIA. Ive already restarted a dozen times, obviously. Is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am i stuck guessing? any ideas??

  2. oof since it started right after the update, roll back first. Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click ur GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. if the button is greyed out, download the preivous package from teh NVIDIA support page and install that instead. fingers crossed 🤞

    the real fix was the friends we made along the way

  7. oof if rollback doesnt help, do a clean install: dowlnoad the drvier you want first, disconnect from teh internet so Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install the downloaded package.. 👍 leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than ppl think. good luck man!
