Accepted solution by Kofi Koch — Remove any GPU overclock and memory ovreclock. Device removed errors are very sensitive to VRAM instability. If u used a tuning tool,…
  1. ok so i lost a ranked match to this today, so forgive the tone... a competitive shooter hard-freezes druing a cutscene and then i get this:

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

it says teh device was removed. removed! two weeks ago I had zero crashes. in between, the only change was teh JetWay Intel G3x/G4x VGA Driver update. my friends on teh same game with different cards are fine. what does this error actually mean and how do I prove whether its teh driver or my card?

  2. been there man if it happens across multiple drivers and games, test the hardware: reseat teh card, check the PCIe power connectors, and try a stress test with temps logged 🤦 A card that only fails when warm is a classic pattern.

  3. been there man DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED means teh GPU stopped responding and Windows reset it (TDR), so the game lost its D3D device. check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System for Event ID 4101 at the crash time. if u see it, its a GPU/driver reset, not a game file problem.

  4. to stop Windows Update replacing your chosen driver: run gpedit.msc (Pro) and enable Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Updates. On Home, use System > About > Advanced system settings > Hardware > Device Installation Settings > No. fingers crossed 🤞

  7. yeahhh look at teh games own crash logs too. Many engines write a log with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG vs DEVICE_REMOVED vs DEVICE_RESET. hung usually means a timeout; removed can also mean the card actually dropped off the bus, which points at power or the slot.

  8. Accepted solution

Remove any GPU overclock and memory ovreclock. Device removed errors are very sensitive to VRAM instability. If u used a tuning tool, reset it to defaults and also check that no profile reapplies at startup. lmk how it goes

  9. honestly just reset teh fan curve and save yourself teh pain good luck man!

nothing is more permanent than a temporary workaround

  10. @kofi.koch dude it was the performance preset. Reset the Intel app to defaults and kept JetWay Intel G3x/G4x VGA Driver 0330. No crashes since, even during a cutscene.
