why does windows care so much about the sata mode?

If you call a support person, give them this info:
Stop code: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    that's what happens if I just flip the switch. I don't wanna reinstall Windows if I can avoid it... what's teh correct, safe procedure to switch, and do I need to uninstall teh RAID driver first? I have a backup of my documents, but I'd realy prefer to keep my installed programs and settings intact if possible. any ideas??

    ahh classic on laptops with Intel VMD/RST, check teh PC makers support page ;) Some models expect RST mode for features like power management, and switching may affect battery life or sleep. good luck man!

    If you end up in a loop, switch the BIOS back to the original mode. Windows boots again and you can retry carefully. Nothing is lost by flipping it back.
