  1. help!! my laptop cant play 4K smoothly, so proxies are the only way i can edit :/ today they wont generate:

    Generate Proxy Media

    Generate Proxy Media
    A001_C003.MP4   -> Proxy  |  1/2 res  |  intermediate codec   Done
    A001_C004.MP4 -> Proxy | could not write to output folder Failed
    A001_C005.MP4 -> Proxy | source decode error Failed

    the output folder is on my external drive and i can create files there manually.

    Where do i start?

    oh ive been there lol check teh free space on teh proxy drive too. Proxies are smaller than originals but not tiny, and a full drive halfway thorugh a batch looks exactly like "some work, some dont". Delete partial proxy files from failed attempts before retrying; some editors refuse to overwrite them. fingers crossed 🤞

  3. @emberwrangler-1zs recopied the two broken clips from the card and they proxied perfeclty. the rest were write errors on a nearly full folder, cleaned up and done. thank u thank u thank u

  4. nah tbh oh, i like this one. id be cautious about making proxies outside teh editor as teh default. its a great fallback, but each editor has its own expectations about proxy naming and timecode. generating them inside the editor avoids subtle linking problems.

  5. Hi! Two different errors means two different casues:

    "Could not write to output folder": check teh proxy location setting... is it a drive that is still connected, formatted so your OS can write to it, and not full? A drive formatted for another OS can mount read-only. also check the path for characters some tools dislike, and that it's not a sync or cloud folder that locks files. fingers crossed 🤞
