    Longer version: my office PC came with a manufacturer-customized graphics driver. I wanted the newer one from NVIDIA directly. Every installer I try says its incompatible with my Windows. Is the laptop maker locking this down, or is my Windows insatll broken? I would realy prefer not to reinstall Windows just to update one driver. If there is a way to check what teh installer is actually comparing, I would love to know it.

    been there man check your Windows build with winver. Newer driver packages can require a minimum featrue update. If u're on an old build, intsall the pending feature update first and try again. worked for me anyway 🤷

    ok so make sure u picked the right architecture and teh right OS family. A package meant for a different Windows edition, or a server/workstation branch, will refuse with teh same generic text.
