    I tried another HDMI cable, another port, and restarting the projector. In Sound settings the HDMI device doesnt even appear, and in Device Manager I dont see a high definition audio device for the GPU anymore :) It worked yesterday on teh old GeForce Ion Graphics Driver 275.21 for FreeBSD. Help? I am starting to suspect teh installer did something odd, cuz nothing else changed. The projector istelf works fine with a game console on teh next input.

    ahh classic open the classic sound panel with mmsys.cpl, right-click teh empty area, enable Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices. A disabled HDMI endpoint wont appear in teh modern Settings page.

    lol same thing happened to me check teh 1080p TV from a few years agos input settings. Some TVs and receivers renegotiate audio formats after a driver change. Power-cycling the 1080p TV from a few years ago with the PC on, or changing the TVs HDMI audio mode to PCM, can bring teh endpoint back.

    In Device Manager, check Sound, video and game controllers for the GPU's HD audio device. Also try View > Show hidden devices. If it's there but disabled, enable it. If it's missing entirely, use Action > Scan for hardware changes.

    ahh classic if the HD audio device shows a yellow mark, uninstall it in Device Manager (tick delete the driver software if offered), then reinstlal teh GPU package with teh audio component selected.

    oof many GPU installers let you choose components in Custom install, and teh HDMI/DisplayPort audio driver is one of them. rerun the NVIDIA installer, choose Custom, and make suree the HD audio component is ticked.

    @yusuf_loose yesss ran teh installer again, picked Custom, and teh HD audio box was unticked. ticked it, reboot, sound on teh projector is back. movie night rescued. thank u thank u thank u
