  1. long time lurker first post lol two things to check... hello everyone... i run a small business and manage our website and email myself, mostly by trial and error... im not technical by training, but Ive picked up enough to be dangerous.

most of what i know came from search results and a lot of late evenings fixing thnigs that broke after updates. the site takes orders, so when it goes down it costs real money.

hoipng to learn the right way to do things, and maybe save other non-developers some of the mistakes Ive made. thx in advance!!

  2. short version: hi and welcome.. 🤦 since you mentioned plugin updates: if your host offers a stagnig copy of the site, its worth learning to use it. updating there first and checking the ordering flow before touching the live site avoids alot of stress, especially for a shop.

  3. hmmm short version: welcome. A practical habit for owner-managed sites: keep a simple text file listing where everything is (registrar, host, DNS, email provider, plugin licences) and who has the logins lol When something breaks, or if someone else ever has to help, that list is gold. fingers crossed 🤞

  4. hey, welcome. non-developers who run their own sites ask some of teh most useful questions here, because u hit teh real-world problems that tutorials skip. dont hesitate to post even if you think a question is basic. include what platform and host youre on, and ppl can usually point you at teh exact setting.

  5. ahh classic really helpful. Im gonna try a test restore on the hosts staging site and look at moving email to a separate provider.

  6. good to have you here. for email, if you havent already, look into setting up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for your domain. its a few DNS records, and it makes a real difference to whether your order confirmations land in inboxes 😭 theres a good thread in the DNS forum that walks through it.
