radeon crimson edition graphics driver 17.9.3 hotfix recovered from a timeout again. how do i find the real cause?? 😭

    im literally losing my mind here three black screens tonight, all while running a 3D benchmark. the third time it didnt recover and I had to hold the power button.

    the home-built tower is about two years old. i udpated to Radeon Crimson Edition Graphics Driver 17.9.3 Hotfix cuz a game asked me to, and honestly i regret it 🤦 i've read about TDR, DDU, rollback, registry tweaks, and now i'm overwhelmed. can someone give me a sane order to try things in so i'm not changing five things at once?

    ok so that pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: the GPU didnt answer within the timeout so Windows reset the driver. Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. the timestamps tell u if it lines up with ur symptom. good luck man!

    ok so since it started right after the update, roll back first :) Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver... if the button is greyed out, download the previous package from teh AMD support page and install that instead. hope that helps :)

    15 tabs open and chrome ate all 32GB of ram again

    nah tbh not every TDR is the driver. If teh black screens continue on two different driver versions, Id start testing the card and PSU instead of hopping versions. just my 2 cents
