  1. help!! i was waking teh monitor from standby on my home-built tower when teh whole screen just went black. audio kept going for a second, then stuttered, then teh picture came back with a little notification that the display driver had stopped responding and recovered... this started the same evening i installed the Intel i830/i845/i855/i865 (Windows NT) update... here's the message i keep getting:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    it happens maybe twice an hour now 🤷 before teh update, zero problems for months, i don't want to start blaming the hardware if this is just a bad driver, but i also don't want to ignore a card that's on its way out... where do i even look first?

  2. Do u see Event ID 4101 in the System log at the same times as the black screens?

  3. event Viewer is full of 4101 warnings, and every one matches a black screen while waking the monitor from standby. idk what else to say tbh

  4. yeahhh also turn off any GPU overclock or undervolt profile, including factory "OC mode" in the vendor app. A new driver can expose an undervolt that was only barely stable before.

  5. oh ive been there lol check power before blaming the driver. A PSU thats borderline or a daisy-chained PCIe cable can cause exactly this under load, if its a desktop, use two separate PCIe power cables if the card has two connectors. hope that helps :)

  6. If rollback doesnt help, do a clean install: download the driver you want first, disconnect from teh internet so Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install the downloaded package. Leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than people think.

    my pc fans sound like a jet taking off but sure
