Accepted solution by Mateo Ueda — do a proper clean install of teh previous driver: download it from the Gigabyte support page, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU , reboot, then…
  1. So this is new. Artifacts in video playback, and only since updating GA-G31M-ES2L (rev. 2.x) VGA Driver from Gigabyte.

    gpu artifacts

ive already rebooted three times. they dont show up on the BIOS screen as far as I can tell, only once Windows loads. is that a meaningful clue? im happy to run tests, I just need to know which ones make sense. I have not overclocked anything on purpose, but I did install a tuning tool a while back. I want to rule out the cheap explanations before I start pricing replacement cards. seriously need help here 😭

  2. ur BIOS observation is a good clue. If artifacts appear only after Windows loads the driver, but not in BIOS or in Safe Mode (which uses the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter), that leans towards driver/software. If they show up in BIOS too, think hardware.

  3. oof check that teh PCIe power connectors are fully seated and not melted or discolored... power issues can produce artifacts under load. fingers crossed 🤞

  4. oof reset any overclock or undervolt, especially mmeory clock, artifacts that look like small colored blocks are often VRAM instability, and a driver update can change memory behavior enough to tip a marginal OC over.

  5. oh ive been there lol if artifacts persist after DDU and an older driver, and even appear in BIOS, back up your data and look into warranty. Dont keep stress testing a card that shows artifacts in BIOS.

  10. Accepted solution

do a proper clean install of teh previous driver: download it from the Gigabyte support page, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, then install. A plain rollback in Device Manager sometimes leaves the problematic profiles in place.

  11. @proxylab-1pn DDU plus the previous Gigabyte driver and the artifacts are completely gone 👍 so relieved I didnt buy a new card in a panic.
