  1. im literally losing my mind here i was waking the monitor from standby on my gaming desktop when the whole screen just went black. Audio kept going for a second, then stuttered, then the picture came back with a little notification that teh display driver had stopped responding and recovered. This started the same evening I installed teh NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Driver 531.29 update. Here's the message I keep getting:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    It happens maybe twice an hour now. Before teh update, zero problems for months. i don't want to start blaming the hardware if this is just a bad driver, but i also don't want to ignore a card that's on its way out. Where do i even look first? what am i doing wrong??

  2. ahh classic if rollback doesnt help, do a clean intsall: download the driver you want first, disconnect from the inetrnet so Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install teh downloaded package. leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than people think.

  3. check power before blaming the driver. A PSU thats borderline or a daisy-chained PCIe cable can cause exactly this under load. if its a desktop, use two separate PCIe power cables if the card has two connectors.

  5. Since it started right after the update, roll back first. Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click ur GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. If the button is greyed out, download teh previous package from the NVIDIA support page and install that instead.

  6. id actually do DDU first rather than a rollback, rollback keeps the same leftovers aronud, and a clean slate tells you more. but hey ymmv

  7. @quartz_fox it was the power cable. one daisy-chained cable on a hungry card... swapped to two separate cables and the gaming desktop hasnt blacked out since. lesson learned. u guys are the best!!!
