The home-built tower is about two years old. I updated to Catalyst Windows 7 Preview Driver Package 64-bit cuz a game asked me to, and honestly I regret it 🔥 Ive read about TDR, DDU, rollback, registry tweaks, and now Im overwhelmed. Can someone give me a sane order to try things in so Im not changing five things at once?

  2. oof since it started right after teh updtae, roll back first 😅 Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver... if the button is greyed out, download the previous package from the AMD support page and install that instead.

15 tabs open and chrome ate all 32GB of ram again

  3. been there man if rollback doesnt help, do a clean install: download the driver u want first, disconnect from the internet so Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install the downloaded package.. :/ leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than people think.

  4. Not every TDR is the driver. If the black screens continue on two different driver versions, Id start testing teh card and PSU instead of hopping versions. but hey ymmv

  5. @bea_copper It was the power cable. One daisy-chained cable on a hungry card. Swapped to two separate cables and the home-built tower hasn't blacked out since. Lesson learned.
