is installing the chipset package the first thing you do on a new build?

  1. so annoyed rn ive built and set up a few PCs, and Ive never been sure about chipset drivers. On my laptop after a CPU upgrade, Device Manager shows no unknown devices. Is there still a reason to install Surface Pro 2 Firmware and Driver May? Are there specific features that only work with it?? Id love to know what others do on fresh setups, and whether youve ever noticed a real difference with or without it. Practical experience is more useful to me than theory.

    DNS. its always DNS

  4. ok so on some newer CPUs, the chipset package includes power plans or scheduler-related components that improve behavior. For those, installing it from teh vendor or board maker is recommended. worked for me anyway 馃し

  5. oof prefer the board or PC makers version for laptops; for desktops with a standard motherboard, the chip makers latest packgae is usually fine too.

  7. check Device Manager with View > Show hidden devices. if there are unknown devices like SM Bus Controller or PCI Device, teh chipset package or related drivers fill those in.

reading release notes like its a horror novel

  8. install order for a fresh setup: chipset first, then storage, then network, then GPU and audio :/ that avoids dependencies installing in the wrong order.
