longer version: my prebuilt desktop came with a manufacturer-customzied graphics driver. i wanted the newer one from NVIDIA directly. every installer i try says its incompatible with my Windows. is the laptop maker locking this down, or is my Windows install broken? i would really prefer not to reinstall Windows just to update one driver. if there is a way to check what teh installer is actually comparing, i would love to know it.

  2. ok so some laptops use OEM-customized drivers (common on hybrid graphics) 🙏 In that case get the driver from the laptop makers support page, or use the generic NVIDIA package only if it expilcitly lists mobile GPUs. worked for me anyway 🤷

  4. ahh classic make suree you pciked the right architecture and the right OS family. A package meant for a different Windows edition, or a server/workstation branch, will refuse with the same generic text. hope that helps :)

  6. OEM drivers can lag far behind. If teh laptop makers version is ancient, the vendors gneeric mobile package is usually fine once you match teh right one.
