hmmm some laptops use OEM-customized drivers (common on hybrid graphics). in that case get the driver from the latpop makers support page, or use teh generic NVIDIA package only if it explicitly lists mobile GPUs. worked for me anyway 🤷

  1. not gonna lie this is driving me nuts this is so frustrating. im trying to update the graphics driver on my office PC, and the vendor app fails immediately:

"Not compatible with this version of Windows." Windows Update says Im fully up to date. the GeForce Graphics Driver page supports Windows XP 64-bit, is the installer checking smth besides teh OS version? i feel like Im missing something obvoius. i even tried downloading it on another computer and copying it over, just in case teh file was corrupted... same error, same instant failure, i am honestly running out of ideas.

  2. ok but what does winver show for your Windows build? ?

  3. hmmm that error is often misleading... installers check the GPU's hardware ID against their INF file, not just the OS.. 🤦 open Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids and compare, if u grabbed the desktop package for a laptop GPU (or vice versa), u'll get this exact message. worked for me anyway 🤷

  4. Check your Windows build with winver. newer driver packages can require a minimum feature update. if youre on an old build, install the pending feature update first and try again. fingers crossed 🤞

  6. I wouldn't force an INF that doesn't list your hardware ID. Even if it installs, hybrid graphics switching can break.

the real fix was the friends we made along the way

  7. @jonas_heap wowww ok installed the pending Windows feature update, then GeForce Graphics Driver 310.90 went on without a single complaint. the error was techincally true, just unhelpful. cant believe it was that simple lol
