ok so that error is often misleading. installers check the GPUs hardware ID against their INF file, not just the OS. open Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids and compare. if u grabbed the deskotp package for a laptop GPU (or vice versa), ull get this exact message.
i downloaded NVIDIA Quadro NVS Notebook Beta Drivers 179.48, the download page clearly lists Windows XP 64-bit, and Im on one of those 馃槶 i ran teh vendor app on my laptop and got this:
It says the driver isnt compatible with this version of Windows. Ive rebooted, run it as admin, redownloaded it. Same thing. My current driver is quite old and i need teh new one for a game. Why would the installer refuse when teh OS is listed?? seriously need help here 馃槶

@early_sage Ended up using the laptop makers driver 馃し Its older but stable, and my game launches now... thx for explaining what teh installer was realy checking.
