the small form factor PC is about two years old, i updated to GeForce Beta Drivers 182.05 for WindowsXP 64-bit because a game asked me to, and honestly i regret it... ive read about TDR, DDU, rollback, registry tweaks, and now Im overwhelmed... can someone give me a sane order to try things in so Im not changing five things at once? what am i doing wrong??

somewhere an AI is confidently telling someone the wrong fix rn

  2. hmmm is any overclock, undervolt or "OC mode" enabled in the GPU software or BIOS? ?

  3. ok so check power before blaming the driver. A PSU thats borderline or a daisy-chained PCIe cable can cause exactly this under load. if its a desktop, use two separate PCIe power cables if teh card has two connectors. good luck man!

  4. lol same thing happened to me that pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: the GPU didn't answer within the timeout so Windows reset the driver. Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. the timestamps tell u if it lines up with your symptom.

  5. Since it started right after teh update, roll back first ;) Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. If teh button is greyed out, download teh previous package from the vednor support page and install that instead.

  6. @kofi_rusty WOWWW it was the power cable. One daisy-chained cable on a hungry card. Swapped to two separate cables and the small form factor PC hasn't blacked out since 🤷 Lesson learned.
