  1. long time lurker first post lol i play a competitive shooter every evening on my budget build and know exactly how it should feel. After installing NVIDIA ForceWare Driver 97.46, its noticeably choppier, frame times are all over the place, and tonight it even crashed once:

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

I havent changed any in-game settings. temps look normal. is it possible a driver update makes things this much worse, or am I imagining it? seriously need help here 😭

at this point my GPU cost more than my car lol

  2. yeahhh check Power Options: a Windows update or driver installer can switch to Balanced or a battery saver profile :D on laptops, also check the manufatcurers performance mode app.

  3. ok so first rule out the obvious: on laptops, check that teh game actually uses teh dedicated GPU. Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add teh games .exe, set it to High performance. driver updates can reset per-app GPU preferences. fingers crossed 🤞

  4. Check that the driver install didnt reset your control panel settings (power management mode, low latency mode, V-Sync, frame caps). A clean install resets everything to defaults, which can feel like a performance change. worked for me anyway 🤷

  5. yeahhh if measurement confimrs a regression, roll back with DDU to the previous driver, and report it to NVIDIA with ur GPU, game and settings. fingers crossed 🤞

  6. after a driver update, games often rebuild their shader cache, which causes stutter for the first sessions. give it a couple of runs, or clear teh driver shaedr cache manually in the control panel / %LocalAppData% cache folder and let it rebuild once. good luck man!

  9. To measure properly, use a repeatable in-game benchmark or the same route, log frame times with a tool like PresentMon or CapFrameX, and compare average and 1% lows on both drivers. One run each isnt enough.
