Accepted solution by Yara Novak — yeahhh check your Windows build with winver. newer driver packages can require a mniimum feature update... if you're on an old build,…
  1. long time lurker first post lol this is so frustrating. Im trying to update teh graphics driver on my home-built tower, and teh official installer fails immediately:

    Windows Update

    Windows Update
    We couldn't complete the updates.
Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer.

    Error code: 0x800f0922

"Not compatible with this version of Windows." Windows Update says Im fully up to date. the Catalyst Display Driver page supports Windows Vista x64... is the installer checking something besides the OS version? I feel like Im missing something obvious. I even tried downloading it on another computer and copying it over, just in case the file was corrupted... same error, same instant failure. I am honestly running out of ideas. thx in advance!!

  3. sorry forgot to say winver shows a pretty old build. Windows Update said up to date but there was a feature update waiting under optional updates.

reading release notes like its a horror novel

  5. oof some laptops use OEM-customized drivers (common on hybrid graphics). In that case get the driver from teh laptop maker's support page, or use the generic AMD package only if it explicitly lists mobile GPUs. fingers crossed 🤞

  6. try turning off teh cable first, fixed it for me... reading this at 2am instead of sleeping, no regrets fingers crossed 🤞

  7. oh ive been there lol run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth if the installer fails on every version. A damaged component store can break driver installers in odd ways.

  8. lol same thing happened to me make sure you picked the right architecture and teh right OS family. A package meant for a different Windows edition, or a server/workstation branch, will refuse with the same generic text. good luck man!

  10. i wouldnt force an INF that doesnt list your hardware ID. Even if it installs, hybrid graphics switching can break. but hey ymmv

  11. @yaran609 i was using the desktop package on a laptop GPU... grabbed the right one from the AMD support page and it installed fine... feel a bit silly but happy.
