Accepted solution by Luca N. — yeahhh check that the PCIe power connectors are fully seated and not melted or discolored. power issues can prodcue artifacts under load.
  1. pls tell me this is a driver thing. Glitches in the browser on my editing workstation, starting right after teh Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family Graphics Driver update:

    gpu artifacts

The card isn't new but it's never shown anything like this before. Temperatures look normal, i've tried a different cable and teh artifacts are the same. i'd like to know what to test before i convince myself it's dead... i also do some photo work on the editing workstation, so i realy need to know whether i can trust what i see on screen right now.

  2. do they appear in screenshots, or only on the monitor?

  4. Booted into Safe Mode and the screen was clean. Back to normal mode, artifacts in the browser again. hope thats enough info 😅

  5. ur BIOS observation is a good clue 🔥 If artifacts appear only after Windows loads the driver, but not in BIOS or in Safe Mode (which uses teh Microsoft Basic Display Adapter), that leans towards driver/software. If they show up in BIOS too, think hardware. worked for me anyway 🤷

RAM prices doing their own thing again smh

  6. hmmm if artifcats persist after DDU and an older driver, and even appear in BIOS, back up ur data and look into warranty. dont keep stress tetsing a card that shows artifacts in BIOS. good luck man!

  7. oof do a proper clean install of the previous driver: download it from teh vednor support page, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, then install. A plain rollback in Device Manager sometimes leaves the problematic profiles in place. hope that helps :)

  8. ok so test with a second display output or a different port. if artifacts move with the screen content in screenshots, its rendering (GPU). if they dont appear in a screenshot but do on the monitor, teh cable, port or monitor itself is involved.

  9. Reset any overclock or undervolt, especially memory clock. Artifacts that look like small colored blocks are often VRAM instability, and a driver update can change memory behavior enough to tip a marginal OC over.

  13. Id test in a second PC if u can. Its teh only test that realy separates teh card from everything else.

  14. @thread_fox omg finally sadly it was hardware, artifacts showed in BIOS after a few days... warranty claim is in... thanks for helping me figure it out fast.
