Accepted solution by Yuki — lol same thing happened to me if measurement confirms a regression, roll back with DDU to teh previuos driver, and report it to NVIDIA…
  1. My gaming desktop is performing like it lost a generation. a racing sim stutters in places that used to be smooth, all after the NVIDIA driver update.

i'd like to measure this properly instead of going on feel. What's the right way to compare two drivers? i have both drievr packaegs downloaded already. i just do not wanna run a dozen random tests and end up with numbers i cannot interpret. A simple, repeatable method would be perfect.

  2. hmmm is it lower average FPS, or mainly stutter?

  4. yeahhh first rule out the obvious: on laptops, check that teh game actually uses the dedicated GPU. Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add the games .exe, set it to High performance. Driver updates can reset per-app GPU preferences. worked for me anyway 🤷

  5. hmmm check that the driver install didnt reset your control panel settings (power management mode, low latency mode, V-Sync, frame caps). A clean install resets everything to defaults, which can feel like a performance change. good luck man!

RAM prices doing their own thing again smh

  6. after a driver update, games often rebuild their shader cache, which causes stutter for the first sessions... give it a couple of runs, or clear the driver shader cache manually in the control panel / %LocalAppData% cache folder and let it rebuild once.

  9. oh ive been there lol to measure properly, use a repeatable in-game benchmark or teh same route, log frame times with a tool like PresentMon or CapFrameX, and compare average and 1% lows on both drivers. One run each isnt enough.

  11. Check Power Options: a Windows update or driver installer can switch to Balanced or a battery saver profile. On laptops, also check the manufacturers performance mode app. good luck man!
