  1. ugh. getting DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED in a flight sim, and now in a second game too, which makes me think its not a game problem.

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

Timeline: installed Aopen AK79D-400VN nVIDIA nForce Driver from NVIDIA, crashes started teh same night. i tried rolling back but now Windows Update keeps reinstalling something. Im starting to feel like Im fighting my own PC. Whats teh proper way to test this? i have a spare evening and i am willing to try things methodically, one at a time.

my pc fans sound like a jet taking off but sure

  2. wait any overclock or undervolt, including on the VRAM?

  3. do a clean install of the driver version you trust: download it from the NVIDIA support page, disconnect the network, boot to Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, install, then test a co-op shooter for a few sessions before changing anything else. worked for me anyway 🤷

  4. if it happens across multiple drivers and games, test the hardware: reseat the card, check teh PCIe power connectors, and try a stress test with temps logged 🔥 A card that only fails when warm is a classic pattern.

  6. ahh classic DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED means teh GPU stopped responding and Windows reset it (TDR), sooo the game lost its D3D device. check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System for Event ID 4101 at teh crash time. if you see it, its a GPU/driver reset, not a game file problem. hope that helps :)

day one patch is bigger than the actual game, classic

  7. been there man to stop Windows Update replacing ur chosen driver: run gpedit.msc (Pro) and enable Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Do not include drivers with Windows Updates. On Home, use System > About > Advanced system settings > Hardware > Device Installation Settings > No. lmk how it goes

  11. remove any GPU overclock and memory overclock. device removed errors are very sensitive to VRAM instability. if you used a tuning tool, reset it to defaults and also check that no profile reapplies at startup. good luck man!

  12. yeahhh look at teh game's own crash logs too 😭 many engines write a log with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG vs DEVICE_REMOVED vs DEVICE_RESET... hung usually means a timeout; removed can also mean teh card actually dropped off the bus, which points at power or the slot.

  14. @hcosta dude it was the performance preset... reset the NVIDIA app to defaults and kept Aopen AK79D-400VN nVIDIA nForce Driver R3.13, no crashes since, even during changing graphics settings. owe u a beer 🍺
