Accepted solution by Dario Kim — that error is often misleading, installers check the GPUs hardware ID against their INF file, not just teh OS.. 😂 open Device Manager…
  1. This is sooo frustrating. i'm trying to update the graphics driver on my gaming laptop, and an older package fails immediately:

    Windows Update

    Windows Update
    We couldn't complete the updates.
Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer.

    Error code: 0x800f0922

"Not compatible with this version of Windows." Windows Update says Im fully up to date. the Intel Display Driver page supports Windows XP. is the installer cehcking smth besides teh OS version?? i feel like Im missing something obvious. i even tried downloading it on another computer and coyping it over, just in case teh file was corrupted. same error, same instant failure. i am honestly running out of ideas.

  2. Run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth if the installer fails on every version. A damaged component store can break driver installers in odd ways.

  3. as a last resort u can extract teh package and install the INF manually: Device Manager > Update driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick > Have Disk, or pnputil /add-driver <path>\*.inf /install, if teh INF doesnt list ur hardware ID, tho, dont force it.

  4. been there man make sure you picked teh right architecture and the right OS family. A package meant for a different Windows edition, or a server/workstation branch, will refuse with the same generic text. good luck man!

  7. Some laptops use OEM-customized drivers (common on hybrid graphics). In that case get teh driver from the laptop makers support page, or use the generic ASUS package only if it explicitly lists mobile GPUs. hope that helps :)

  10. Check ur Windows build with winver. Newer driver packages can require a minimum feature update. If ure on an old build, install the pending feature update first and try again. worked for me anyway 🤷

  12. Accepted solution

that error is often misleading, installers check the GPUs hardware ID against their INF file, not just teh OS.. 😂 open Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids and compare... if you grabbed the desktop package for a laptop GPU (or vice versa), youll get this exact message. worked for me anyway 🤷
