Accepted solution by Xavi Sato — oof some ppl raise TdrDelay in the registry to hide this. i wouldnt start there: it just gives the GPU longer to hang and doesnt fix…
  1. ugh. okay, this is driving me nuts, black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like nothing happened... then this pops up:

Its always while running a 3D benchmark. My small form factor PC is not overclocked and temps look normal in the vendor overlay. The only change i can point to is the Radeon HD 4800 series hotfix update from AMD. Ive already restarted a dozen times, obviously. Is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am i stuck guessing?

  2. oof check power before blaming the driver. A PSU that's borderline or a daisy-chained PCIe cable can cause exactly this under load. if it's a desktop, use two separate PCIe power cables if teh card has two connectors. hope that helps :)

  4. If rollback doesn't help, do a clean install: download the driver you want first, disconnect from the internet so Windows Update doesn't push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install the downloaded package. Leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than people think.

  6. ehh id actually do DDU first rather than a rollback... rollback keeps teh same leftovers around, and a clean slate tells u more. but hey ymmv

  8. @xavis278 holy cow it was the power cable. One daisy-chained cable on a hungry card 🤷 Swapped to two separate cables and the small form factor PC hasn't blacked out since. Lesson learned. thank u thank u thank u
