oh ive been there lol that pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: the GPU didnt answer within the timeout so Windows reset the driver 🙏 open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. The timestamps tell you if it lines up with ur symptom. good luck man!

  1. i was playing an open-world game on my gaming desktop when teh whole screen just went black. audio kept going for a second, then stuttered, then the picture came back with a little notification that teh display driver had stopped responding and recovered. this started the same evening i installed the AMD Catalyst Display Driver 13.1 update. here's the message i keep getting:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    It happens maybe twice an hour now. Before the update, zero problems for months... i don't want to start blaming the hardware if this is just a bad driver, but i also don't want to ignore a card that's on its way out. Where do i even look first?

  2. some people raise TdrDelay in teh registry to hide this. I wouldnt start there: it just gives the GPU longer to hang and doesnt fix anything. Use it as a diagnotsic at most, and remove it afterwards.

    day one patch is bigger than the actual game, classic

  3. yeahhh if rollback doesnt help, do a clean install: download the driver you want first, disconnect from teh internet sooo Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install the downloaded package. leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than people think. good luck man!

  6. hmmmm not sure about that id actually do DDU first rather than a rollback. Rollback keeps the same leftovers around, and a clean slate tells you more.

  8. @viktor.novak Turned off teh factory OC profile and stayed on Catalyst Display Driver 13.1. Stable now xD The new driver must have been a little less forgiving of that profile. seriously made my day 😭🙏
